Placement: Controller’s Office, City Services Auditor – City Performance Unit
What I Worked On: My office conducts financial and performance auditing, best practices research, technical assistance to city departments, and a variety of policy analysis and reporting on all areas of local government and public policy. I am focusing on public safety. I work with the Police Effectiveness Review team to support the Ingleside Police District pilot problem-solving and crime analysis effort. I also am analyzing data, operations and processes in the City and County’s public safety systems to identify opportunities for efficient improvements between and among them. My first analysis involves looking at arrests, charges/re-booking, court case scheduling and processing, court wait times, jail populations and characteristics of the jail population with the specific goal of identifying ways to reduce and manage jail crowding and jail costs.
